President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, and President of the Lower House of the Italian Parliament, Gianfranco Fini, sent their appreciation messages for the project “Italian Shoah Names”

The message of President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano

I consider the website “Italian Shoah Names. Memorial to the Victims of 1943-1945 anti-Jewish Persecution” as a very important initiative to keep and disseminate – through the newest media – the memory of one of the darkest pages of Italian and European history, which could never be forgotten by those who dream of a world in peace. I would like to express my gratitude to those who have been working for years to find the names of all the Italian Jews who were victims of the Shoah, and to those who have made possible today this website, which will allow the victims’ families – and not only them – to renew their memory.

The message of President of the Lower House of the Italian Parliament, Gianfranco Fini

I am glad to send my warmest regards to all the visitors of the website ““Italian Shoah Names. Memorial to the Victims of 1943-1945 anti-Jewish Persecution”, which has been published with the goal of keeping alive the individual and collective memory of the victims and of reconstructing, where possible, their life and persecution path.

This praiseworthy initiative contributes to keep alive the memory of the Shoah, especially among young generations; it is a warning against any attempt of discriminating between human beings and of nullifying individual dignity. Any new or old form of anti-Semitism and racism must be combated. We must prevent any ideology or power from striking down the defenseless ones, the innocents, whole peoples which could be discriminated in the most hateful ways on the basis of ethnicity, religion, gender or social condition.

I want to express my appreciation for this project and I wish to everyone who contributed  the most vivid success to their initiative.

Gianfranco Fini
